Nemosyne (b. 1991, Hsinchu, Taiwan) is a contemporary artist based in Taichung. Working across painting, ceramics, and writing, her practice explores the quiet relationships between inner landscapes, perception, and light.
Beginning with intuitive gestures, her work incorporates organic forms, fluid movement, and her signature visual symbol, White Yao Monster (Furry Friend)—a presence embodying the pure essence of being. Through these elements, she translates subtle emotions into luminous, open-ended visual spaces.
Nemosyne has exhibited across Taiwan and internationally, including exhibitions and art fairs in Paris, Venice, Osaka, Seoul, Busan, and Monaco.
Artist Statement
Dwelling in Perception: Art as a Way of Being
I believe that what we often lack is not an answer, but a quiet enough moment to re-experience ourselves.
For me, creating art is a way of dwelling—dwelling in the present, in the moment when perception happens, and in those lived experiences that have yet to be named by language. Through painting, ceramics, and writing, I continuously document life's explorations: hope, love, courage, and existence, as well as the subtle, fluid connection between perception and the universe. I translate inner feelings, memories, emotions, and imagination into tangible forms that can be seen and felt.
I view myself as a "translator of perception."
I rarely use preliminary drafts. Instead, I begin with intuition, allowing subconscious imagery to intertwine naturally with my immediate state of mind. Color, light, negative space, fluid forms, flowers, and organic lines gradually take shape throughout the creative process, much like memories and emotions surfacing naturally. Together, they create an open field of perception, inviting viewers to enter with their own lived experiences and encounter a moment that belongs solely to them.
"Furry Friend" (白燿毛怪) is a core symbol that weaves through my work. It represents the purest essence of existence. Its white light—embodying all colors combined—symbolizes the inherently complete, free, and authentic nature within each of us. Its perpetually open, pointed ears represent our capacity to stay perceptive and attuned to the world.
I believe sensitivity is a way of staying connected to life. When we are willing to feel, we can hear those subtle whispers and draw closer to ourselves once more. "Furry Friend" thus becomes a gentle presence, accompanying both myself and the viewer to linger within the artwork and return to a pure, centered space within.
Beyond painting, I extend this perception through ceramics. Clay retains the physical impression of human hands, taking the work beyond the visual realm and into the tactile. It gives abstract emotions a physical form and warmth that can be touched. Writing offers yet another path inward, leaving behind feelings that are still taking shape in the space between words and silence.
My recent work continues to orbit a central question: How can we remain authentically present amidst the constant ebb and flow of life?
I hope my work serves as a space where one can pause. When the pace of viewing slows down, perhaps we will begin to notice our own breath, emotions, and inner rhythm—and in that singular moment, reconnect with the self that has always been there.
